Tour A Los Lagos (Tour to the Lakes)
This is the grand daddy of them all! This is the dream adventure including some of the best ski resorts in South America. Your journey (and this is a journey!) begins in the Southern Andes at the three world-class resorts closest to Santiago (La Parva, El Colorado & Valle Nevado). From there, we travel South towards the Lake District and ski two spectacular resorts nestled in the active volcano region of Chile (Termas de Chillan and Pucon). Depending on snow conditions we may stop in between the two for a day at an up and coming dream resort of Corralco nestled behind Volcan Llonquimay. Just when you think it can't get any better we take one of the most scenic drives on this planet over the border into Argentina . From here we will be hitting the forested slopes of Chapelco, Cerro Bayo and of course the beautiful slopes of Catedral in Bariloche. This is a 15 day journey and the itinerary is somewhat flexible depending on where we find the most powder.
Itinerary:
· Day 1: (Saturday) Arrive at Arturo Merino Benitez International
Airport (Santiago, Chile). Please exchange money before picking up your luggage
at baggage claim. We will be waiting for you as you exit customs and will
load your gear and head up to Farellones a town above Santiago in the Southern
Andes. We will drop off our gear at the hostal and head out for a day on the
slopes at La Parva Ski Resort. One of our on mountain guides will be happy
to make skiing suggestions and answer any questions.
· Day 2: (Sunday) A dual mountain ticket for both La Parva and Valle
Nevado will set the stage for a huge mountain experience in the Southern Andes.
· Day 3: (Monday) Another huge mountain day, but today will be at El
Colorado and Valle Nevado.
· Day 4: (Tuesday) We will spend the day driving south to Termas de
Chillan. We will treat to a nice Parilla (BBQ) so you can sample the Chilean
cuisine. That afternoon we will be in the small village of Las Trancas 7 miles
below the resort. Here we will be staying in beautiful cabanas for the next
couple days. This night we will drive up and soak in the hot springs. Ahhhhh
.
· Day 5: (Wednesday) Termas de Chillan for a day on the slopes of this
impressive volcano hugging the Andes.
· Day 6: (Thursday) Termas de Chillan for another great day of seeing
and skiing this active volcano.
· Day 7: (Friday) Termas de Chillan for a half a day and then we head
south to one of the most incredible places on the planet
Pucon. We will
settle in and hope for good weather to ski the Volcan Villarrica overlooking
Lago Villarrica. If the mountain is socked-in, we will have plenty of alternatives
such as horseback riding, hiking, rafting, shopping and soaking in the wonderful
hot springs. This place is truly an adventurer's paradise
· Day 8: (Saturday) Pucon rocks! !. The terrain is unbelievable here.
You can even rent crampons and hike with a guide to the top of this active
volcano if you like. Hiking and skiing a smoking volcano with a beautiful
view of the lake is a once in a lifetime experience!
· Day 9: (Sunday) Pucon for another day on the slopes. Wow
this
is paradise. Or you can go horse back riding to the waterfall Salto Claro
if that is not your bag perhaps a hike through one of the many native old
growth stands in the beautiful araucaria forest.
· Day 10: (Monday) Rise and shine! We are off to the border amigos!
This drive over the pass is absolutely amazing. We drive directly under Volcan
Lenin. At 3750 meters it is a masterpiece! Depending on the border check we
should arrive in time for a half day at the ski resort of Chapelco. Before
skiing we will drop off our stuff at our cabana in the quaint little town
of San Martin de Los Andes before heading up to the slopes.
· Day 11: (Tuesday) Another relaxing day on the slopes of Chapelco.
The slopes are excellent, but so is the tree skiing. There is also plenty
of short hikes to sweet off piste chutes and bowls. This night will be all
about flavor! San Martin de Los Andes is one of our favorite towns. This Argentinean
secret has some of the best restaurants and bars around. Oh yeah, hopefully
you will also see that the skiing was incredible as well. We think you will!
· Day 12: (Wednesday) Chapelco. We will be here for a half day of skiing
before heading to the ski area of Cerro Bayo above the town of Villa de Angostura.
We will arrive in time for you to settle in to the warm hostal and friendly
vibes of Angostura! We will dine out tonight! It just keeps getting better.
· Day 13: (Thursday) Cerro Bayo. It is a small but beautiful resort
with many challenging runs. Its only for the day before we drive towards another
side of the massive lake, Nahuel Huapi for the town of Bariloche. Find out
why they call this the little Switzerland of South America. It is amazing.
We will be living it up tonight!
· Day 14: (Friday) Catedral is an impressive resort. We will be ripping
up the slopes today! The views, the people and everything is magical about
this resort.
· Day 15: (Saturday) Catedral: You will wonder why its not part of
Catedral being that the runs 'run' into eachother. Although older lifts and
facilities, this resort is among Tony's favorites for easy backcountry access.
It rocks without the crowds of Catedral.
to Santiago this night for an incredible seafood dinner and some food shopping.
